Synappx Manage MFP/Printer SNMP Data Collection
Synappx Manage can discover and collect data from third-party devices that conform to the Industry Standard Printer Management Information Base (MIB). The collected data enables Synappx Manage to perform various tasks, such as monitoring device status and visualizing device information when available.
Leveraging the standard printer MIB, Synappx Manage can help manage and control network printers/MFPs. By default, Synappx Manage can collect data from third-party devices:
- Meters - Total Pages
- Toner Levels - C/M/Y/K
- Alerts - e.g. Offline, Paper Jam
- Basic Device Capabilities - e.g. Trays
Note: Printer MIB RFC defines the standard MIB for printers and print-related devices. This RFC specifies a set of objects for managing and monitoring printers, such as their status, configuration, and operational characteristics. It also provides guidelines for implementing the Printer MIB and for using Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) to manage printers. Synappx Manage collects data when the MFP/printer responds to the SNMP queries.
Sharp vs. Non-Sharp Device Support
All Sharp devices are automatically mapped with the proper Sharp SNMP OID. For third-party printer management, Synappx Manage provides a starter set of custom device types for select manufactures and models. When non-Sharp devices are discovered, you can manage the device by mapping the device with the pre-loaded custom device type. Once mapped, for example, you can view total color pages vs mono pages for the third-party printer or MFP.
You can also import SNMP OID using Synappx Manage's Custom Device Type Import feature (per tenant, up to 50 OID). If you have access to the private MIB for third-party printers, you can import and define custom device types for specific printer models so that Synappx Manage can interpret and extend the availability of device data.
- Data availability:
- Page counts: mono, color, simplex, duplex, copy, scan, fax, etc.
- Toner level (from standard MIB)
Note: Synappx Manage cannot guarantee the data accuracy from the 3rd party printers. Data types and accuracy may vary per model/device and how the device responds. The MIB definitions are subject to change by each manufacture and Synappx Manage attempts to present the data which are obtained by the SNMP queries, based on the given MIB definitions. If you wish to add or update the pre-loaded 3rd party printer OID, contact your authorized Sharp service provider.
