Our History
Sharp's founder Tokuji Hayakawa first invented the Snap Buckle in 1912. Three years later he invented the Sharp Mechanical Pencil, giving birth to our brand name.
This was the beginning of a successful history of innovative ideas and technology culminating in award-winning Sharp products. In 1962, Sharp Corporation established Sharp Electronics Corporation in the Americas and in 1972, we introduced our first copier. This was followed by an extensive document output line, which paved the way for our current line of products, including our multifunction printers, printers, professional displays, laptops and monitors.
In 2016, the world's largest electronics manufacturing services provider, Foxconn Technology Group, became a majority shareholder of Sharp Corporation. Foxconn is committed to technology innovation by investing in the research and development of future trends for its customers, such as artificial intelligence and the smart office.
Today, Sharp Corporation is recognized as one of the world's leading producers of technology for home and business environments. To learn more about Sharp's history of innovation, watch the video.
